We have discussed many ways to reduce assessment but let’s change gears for one second. If you look closely at your property tax bill, you will see the total sum of all levies (taxes applied by the government) and that number will vary from town to town, from county to county, and state to state but one thing they all have in common is if a mathematical error occurred, it could cost you real money. Simple mathematical errors happen every day and just like assessment, the officials in charge of these changes are not always responsible enough to double-check for errors, mainly because they don’t have time. You can and you should always question the accuracy of your tax bill. A simple mistake like a misplaced decimal or leaving off an exemption can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
